Ductwork replacements definitely need to be thought through!

Having made the mistake of thinking I could tear out my ductwork, I’ve now learned that taking down ductwork is way harder than it looks on the web! You need to rip down your walls and ceiling to access the ducts, and then the metal ducts have to be removed and trashed. Fun fact: standard ductwork is very heavy! They are also incredibly bulky, with sharp edges and a distinct difficulty for maneuvering. I thought my entire home was going to fall down at one point as I took it down! Knowing what to do with them was another thing altogether, once the ducts were out. I was hopeful that my Heating and Air Conditioning company would want the outdated Heating and A/C ductwork, but after calling them I realized what a dumb plan that was. Who would they want the old, dented and grimy ducts anymore than I did? I tried getting a metal scraper to take them too, but there doesn’t seem to be any scrappers in this city that are legitimate folks. Eventually, I just worked with the dump to move all the heavy ductwork and put it in the back of my truck. Once I moved it to the dump, I left it there. Overall, I would say that I tore out the ductwork to start with for saving cash on labor. It was not worth it, if you ask me.
