Getting the fireplace ready for winter

Getting the fireplace ready for winter

Nick August 18, 2019

I love the winter time more than any other period of the year.

  • Summer is good and well, and I enjoy the cool winds of autumn.

Spring is also a delightful time, just to see the flowers bloom and enjoy the afternoon showers. However, nothing compares to the aesthetic appeal that comes from the winter season! See, years ago, I decided to buy a house that was equipped with this massive fireplace. I knew that using the fireplace would cause the air quality in my home to suffer, as it was likely that the fireplace would cause soot and smoke to pass into the house. Sure enough, the first time I used the fireplace for warmth, the house quickly overheated! I had to find a heating and air conditioning specialist that catered to fireplace installation and repair, just so they could address the cause of the backflow of smoke and get the fireplace back in working order. To my surprise, the specialist was able to drop by the house as early as the following day! Even more surprising is that the HVAC specialist was able to get the chimney for the fireplace cleared out. After doing that, he checked and verified that there wasn’t extensive buildups of creosote throughout the chimney. When I had the all-clear, I was able to light my first legitimate fire of the winter season. It was a delightful and warming fire, which was better than any heat that could be provided by a furnace or boiler. I was so thankful for my fireplace to be both beautiful and functional!
