Refusing to pay overtime charges and going without air conditioning is a mistake

Last July, my air conditioner malfunctioned in the middle of the night. The problem occured over a long weekend. I was reluctant to call for repair outside of regular business hours. I knew that I’d be paying a much higher rate for service over a holiday. I decided to hold off until Tuesday morning. The weather was especially hot and humid over the next couple of days. The temperature climbed into the high eighties and there wasn’t even a hint of a breeze. My house was terrible overheated and sticky. I tried opening all of the windows, but it didn’t provide any relief. I welcomed in an influx of dust, pollen, exhaust fumes and mosquitoes. I plugged in a half a dozen electric fans, but they simply made a lot of noise and blew dust around. I constantly tripped over the extension cords stretched across the rug. Without air conditioning, my house was extremely uncomfortable. I had trouble sleeping, had no energy during the day and was always sweaty. I took frequent cold showers and spent a lot of time at air conditioned coffee shops. It was a big relief when the HVAC contractor was finally open for business. I contacted them first thing in the morning, but they were booked until the following week. I was left without air conditioning and time passed very slowly. When the HVAC technician finally showed up and inspected the air conditioner, he figured out that I needed several replacement parts. I was very unhappy to learn that these parts had to be ordered. I suffered without air conditioning for three more days. I should have called for repairs right away and paid the higher costs.
