Temperature differences in the house can be from ductwork problems

Nick August 15, 2019

In the past couple of months, I’ve noticed that there have been some weird temperature issues going on in our house. There’s a really cold spot in our hallway and then in the kitchen, there’s a corner that’s always cold too. I guess it could be a ghost or something in the kitchen, but I’m guessing that there’s probably a more logical reason for it. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure that we have some ductwork in our house that needs to be replaced. Last week when I was changing out our air filters in our HVAC unit, I saw that some of the ductwork looked like it wasn’t connected very well. Then when I was down in the basement I saw that there were a couple of holes in some of the ductwork. After I saw the holes in the ductwork, I went upstairs and did some research online to see what the correlation between the two things might be. I found out that if you have ductwork with holes in it or that’s poorly connected, it can actually cause hot spots or cold spots in your house. Apparently, having leaky ducts can wreak havoc on your heating and air conditioning bills, too. After I read all of that information, I realized that my heating and cooling bills had been more than usual over the past six months. I guess I should call my local HVAC company and have them come out to replace some of my air ducts. Hopefully, it will fix both of the cold spots and lower my energy bills, too!
