Porch and HVAC Complications:

Porch and HVAC Complications:

Nick September 16, 2019

Last week, my parents began ripping their front porch apart so they could rebuild it.

Little did they know that it was going to lead them to major concerns for their gas furnace.

They were looking at how the previous owners had joined some of the joists. As they ripped the boards apart, they realized that they’d been pinned to the foundation. All of us know how my parents don’t have the best heat in their living room plus they were just finding out why. Even though they had wall based radiators, they’d been vented into their outside wall. I laughed, but my parents didn’t. Their foundation was crumbling plus they had large ants scurrying everywhere. They had a boiler plan for their heat plan. There were water pipes that led to the boiler to the radiators in the cabin to give off their heat. When they added the extra living room on, they took all the pipe work that should have gone to their boiler and left it resting on the ground. Now my parents knew why they didn’t have any good heat coming from the radiators. Their porch ended up being a huge reconstruction zone because of their crumbling foundation under their living room, plus that they had never put a good base floor beneath it. My parents had to rerun pipes which had ants consuming them and redo their now rotting living room floor. They had to get their pipes ran into the plan so they could get warm water for heat. I don’t think they would’ve started the porch project if they’d have known about all the complications.
