My coworker showed up late for work this today and seemed really out of sorts.
She looked sort of like she hadn’t slept and her overall appearance was rather disheveled. I definitely knew something had to have happened because she is commonly the most put together lady I know so I headed into her office to see what was going on. She told myself and others that she had been up half the evening due to the fact that her Heating and Air Conditioning device had died around eleven o’clock the evening before. She said that she was just getting prepared for bed when she noticed a foul odor coming from the HVAC vents. She then heard a loud rattling noise and the HVAC device shut off. She said that she hadn’t slept all evening for fear of the beach household cooling off and the pipes starting to freeze. I can’t easily blame her for that as the evening time temps last evening dropped into the teens. I easily don’t think they would have frozen that hastily but it certainly is better to be safe than sorry. She said that she didn’t have the cash to have the HVAC device maintained this year so she was hoping that she wouldn’t have any real complications. I think that didn’t easily pan out for her. Now she will be facing a repair bill or worse and she would have no choice but to finance it. I told her that I have a special savings account that I add a couple of dollars to each payday. This is our emergency fund so that when I need to perform service or repairs around the household I don’t have to panic. It has taken myself and others a long while but I finally have more than a thousand dollars in there which can cover a good amount. She said that she would have to start doing the same exact thing. She doesn’t have much left over after bills but even twenty dollars every other week is a good place to start.
