Most HVAC companies do not expect to have many calls for A/C repairs during the winter months.
They expect calls for heating repairs, instead.
One particular winter in the region where I live, the HVAC company my brother works for experienced an influx of A/C repair calls! That year, it was almost like Winter never happened. There was one week that was very cold and people were having to use their heater, but other than that, the HVAC company received more A/C related repair calls than heating related calls. The HVAC company made a lot more money that year than usual. There are times where that is common in this region. It is not uncommon to hear of people not turning on their heat for months at a time, even during the winter months. It is common for people to have space heaters for their homes on the really cold nights. A large concern in our community is that of space heaters causing house fires. People who are not familiar with the use of space heaters are more prone to catching their homes on fire that those who have more experience with space heaters. When it does get cold around here, HVAC companies are trained in heating repairs although they are much more familiar with A/C repairs. The HVAC company is always unsure of what to expect during the winter months in this region.
