I thought I was invited over for the meal

I thought I was invited over for the meal

Sometimes life can be extremely complicated. Sometimes, for me, it’s difficult to know who is a genuine human and who is just pulling my chain. I feel like I am often taken advantage of for my kindness and useful skills in life. I’m no genius and I’m not equipped with tons of extra money for people to gold dig, but I do have a unique set of skills that often causes people to act like my friend when they have other intentions. Yesterday, for example, I had one of the worst thanksgivings of my entire life. I was really taken aback when my new neighbor asked me if I wanted to come over for their Thanksgiving because I didn’t have any other plans. I’ve only recently moved to the city and I don’t know anyone here to spend the holiday with. I thought it was very nice for them to think of my circumstances and invite me to participate in the family meal. Unfortunately, this wasn’t exactly the case. Rather than spending my time at the family dinner table, I was working in the basement all night. When I arrived, my neighbor immediately ushered me in and offered to take my coat. He casually mentioned that it might feel a bit cold inside the house because the central heating and cooling system wasn’t running well. Then, he casually asked if I thought I might take a look at the failing forced air furnace. I shrugged and told him I would quickly inspect the heater but I didn’t know if I could help with the air temperature complication. Two hours later, I was still desperately working away at the broken heater. My neighbor brought me down a plate of turkey at one point, and I spent my lonely meal genuinely wishing that I wasn’t a professional heating, cooling, and ventilation specialist.
