Deciding to add a gas insert into fireplace

When we bought our home, my husband and I were thrilled by the big stone fireplace in the living room. We hoped to build fires over the winter and enjoy the heat and ambience. However, when we had the fireplace inspected, we learned that there were a lot of problems with the chimney. We would have needed to invest a great deal of money into repairs to the masonry and chimney liner. The more we thought about it, the more we realized that we’d never actually use a wood-burning fireplace. Neither one of us liked the sound of chopping wood and hauling it inside. Building a fire is messy and time-consuming. If we ever managed to get the fire going, we’d then deal with soot, fumes and sparks. We consulted with an HVAC professional who recommended the installation of a natural gas fireplace insert. These innovative options include fans to disperse the heat more evenly throughout the room. They optimize energy efficiency and yet still provide the look of real flames. We are delighted that our new fireplace operates from a cordless remote. With the push of a button, we have a fire. The gas insert supplies a great deal of heat and effectively supplements the furnace. It saves us money on our utility bills throughout the winter. During the installation process, we hired the contractor to also reface the fireplace to give it a more modern look. The fireplace is the focal point of the room and adds to the aesthetics, comfort and value of our home. We spent a lot less time and money on the project than if we’d opted for repairs or replacement of the wood-burning fireplace.
