Nearly a decade has been spent being completely flummoxed by the air flow inside my home.
It has sprained my brain from the first month we lived in this house.
Whether the season is cold or hot, the house was just not able to have any sort of consistent temperature throughout the entirety of the floorplan. I was able to rule out direct sun heating and drafts due to substandard insulation. I had the HVAC guy come out to confirm that the HVAC system is not overwhelmed or incapable. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the HVAC unit. But still, we continued to experience hot and cold spots all over the house. The HVAC system was new when we bought the place so, I wonder if the previous owners ever experienced what we were going through. I went online and found there were a myriad of other possibilities and just as many questionable solutions. But now, I think I may have a handle on what is happening. Before the previous owners sold the house, they had done some renovations to add some rooms throughout the house. This must have thrown off the calculated ventilation plan for the HVAC. The air flow was blocked in some areas. Then it dawned on me. I remembered a small motel that we went to when I was a kid. It was on a lake and it had these little fans inside the walls that would pull air from one room to the next. I found the modern version and they are called room to room ventilators. I pulled the trigger and bought a set. I put them in the adjoining walls of rooms in an area that was particularly troublesome. They worked great and problem solved!!!
