When I first took this janitorial job, I was kind of embarrassed to tell people about it.

I’ve been with this janitorial service now for over a decade and I have to say, I love it! Now I’m proud to tell anyone who asks, that I am a janitor. I’ve worked other jobs where people are always breathing down your neck and micromanaging you. I like the freedom that being a janitor gives me. I have my cleaning supplies and I go to work. That’s it. No one is over my back checking every little thing I do. All I have to do is leave a clean house or a clean office. I can listen to music or books on tape while I work. I don’t mind stripping floors, waxing, or cleaning carpets either. It kind of breaks up the monotony of it. At the end of a cleaning job, I take satisfaction in knowing that I, literally, have something to show for all of my work. Yes, I know I’m a bit of an anomaly here. I’m one of the longest lasting employees in this janitorial company. Most people work here for a few months or a few years and then move on. That’s fine. Not every job is for every person. But, I feel like I have finally found my niche in life. If I can wax your floors and clean your counters for the rest of my life, I’d be very happy
