Although I haven’t always had the greatest luck with landlords and property management companies, I am used to a baseline standard of care that most people can exhibit, even greedier individuals.
Unfortunately, my current landlord is a sociopath.
He has turned off the water in my unit on two separate occasions because he is so incompetent that he will mix up tenants in his paperwork. On both occasions he was convinced that I had not yet paid my rent, and that’s why he turned off the water. The issue is that I have never been late once, and I’m starting to grow weary of his controlling personality. He also chooses the cheapest contractors and repairmen that he can possibly find. The worst example thus far has been the central air conditioner. I kept telling him for weeks that something was wrong with it. It didn’t matter if I told him that it had a burning rubber smell coming from the air handler, or that the temperature could not drop any lower than 80 degrees. When he eventually sent out a heating and cooling repair service, he went with the lowest rated company in our area. It was no surprise that nothing changed after they came and went. I can’t even be certain that they even did anything, let alone attempt to fix whatever was wrong with the air conditioner at the time. He sent the same team out repeatedly after I kept telling him nothing was helping. After five trips and no changes, he finally chose the rational option and went with a different company. I need to find a new place to live as soon as possible.
