My mother lives in the northeastern part of the country.
A few years ago, we decided to visit my mom over the holidays.
She insisted that we stay with her as well, so we could enjoy as much time together as possible. When we arrived at her house, I was surprised to find several space heaters set up. She said that her central Heating system was not working. She seemed fine with using the space heaters. The house didn’t feel overly chilly. When it was time for bed, my mom set up a space heater in the guest bedroom and gave us some extra blankets to keep warm during the night. I was truly exhausted, so I slept right through the night. I was truly freezing when I woke up in the morning. I found my mom in the kitchen, wrapped in a blanket and she was definitely shivering. So I asked her why she hadn’t gotten the furnace repaired. She said she was reluctant and a little afraid of letting a stranger into the house. So I made the call and set up a time for furnace repair. I made sure my husband and I were there when the repairman arrived. He was dressed in uniform and very professional, which set my mother at ease. He was able to fix the furnace in less than an hour. He said the problem was simply a maintenance issue. So as part of my mother’s Christmas present, I enrolled her in a professional maintenance plan to keep her furnace running safely and reliably. She was able to put the space heaters away and adjust the thermostat for a more comfortable home.
