About 10 years ago my husband and I decided that it was a good idea to upgrade our home.
We had a particularly large tax return for once and we decided to put the money back into our quaint residence. We had settled into this home as a starter house right after we were married and always intended to make upgrades throughout the property. However, life always got in the way of adding new insulation, tearing up the flooring, or replacing the old school heating, cooling, and ventilation system. We never really loved the forced air furnace and air conditioning unit that the house came with. It was a lot of work to adjust the thermostat all day long and we’ve paid high energy bills because of the energy inefficient HVAC system. Whenever we called our heating and cooling technician he recommended that we upgrade the entire HVAC system right away. Finally, we had enough money to make a good decision. We went with a geothermal heat pump rather than a traditional forced air furnace and AC system. The geothermal heat pump is amazing because it transfers energy between your house and a system that is installed deep underground. You pay a fair amount of money to have the geothermal heat pump installed but it is basically free after that. Thank God we invested in our geothermal heat pump at that point… In the past few years we’ve both lost our jobs and the lack of energy bill has been saving our asses. If you have extra cash I recommend that you invest in a geothermal heat pump while it lasts.
