I have simply had it with the size of the utility bill during the summer. I swear the thing is so full of heavy numbers that I think it makes the mailbox tilt a bit. It’s like this every summer and I am just sick to death of stroking a check that looks like the down payment of a boat every month. And I know the culprit. It’s the HVAC and how we cool our home. We simply take HVAC comfort for granted and have no discipline about it at all. Well, that is coming to a swift end. I gathered the family last Sunday night and told them that from now on, there will be accountability when it comes to the HVAC use. The biggest thing that just chafes me no end is how careless my family is with the HVAC. I can’t tell you how many times I have come in the house to see a sliding glass door wide open and the HVAC cranking full blast. I try not to ever be threatening or a tyrant in my home. However, when I see blatant disregard like that, I want to just blow my top. I decided to show my family how serious I am. First, I put a cheap camera up to catch anyone leaving the sliding glass door open. Then, I went about having the HVAC people put in a smart thermostat. It’s great because it manages the HVAC fairly autonomously. But, I am able to lock the manual mode so nobody can change the setting. And only I have the access code.
