The bad news is worse than I thought

Nick October 16, 2020

I woke up this morning and there was no cold air coming out of the air vents.

I knew there must be a problem with the AC unit.

I want out to the garage where the HV AC unit is located. I heard a strange sound coming from the top part of the machine. It sounded like a grinding noise. I called the HVAC company immediately and they told me to turn off the AC until the technician arrived. They believed continuing to let the AC run may cause bigger problems. I didn’t want to go without AC all morning, but the first appointment wasn’t until lunchtime. I turned off the system and anxiously waited for the technician to arrive. Shortly after 1, there was a knock on the front door. The AC technician was there to evaluate the problem. I was happy to see the guy wearing a mask and gloves. The AC technician spent 45 minutes looking at the system before he came to the living room to give me bad news. The blower motor on the AC needed to be replaced. The repair was going to cost almost $1,000 if I wanted cool air in the house again. I knew there was an issue with the AC, but the bad news was worse than I thought. I had very little choice in the matter, so I took out my checkbook and paid for the repairs. I can’t live without A/C when the outdoor temperatures are in the 90’s. I hope that’s the last A/C repair I have to make until the system needs to be replaced.
