I do a more balanced workout now that I’m older

After the workouts are complete I stretch while I am still warm

When I was in middle school, I strictly exercised to build muscle. I was a little guy and I just wanted to grow taller and be bigger. I devoted most of my workouts to weightlifting. My goal was to lift as much weight as possible. I didn’t care if I could only lift the weight once. I was all about high weight and low reps. Now that I am older and much wiser, I don’t care if I look like Dwayne Johnson or Arnold Schwartzenegger. I would prefer to feel fit and healthy. Rather than strictly sticking with the weights, I spend more time in other parts of the gym. I make it a point to get a cardio workout at least three mornings per week. I like to either run on the treadmill, use the elliptical or get a workout on the rowing machine. Two mornings per week, I spend time working my leg muscles. As a man, leg day isn’t something I look forward to. I use the leg press, the equipment that works the inner thigh and the leg lift machine. Those mornings are my least favorite because I can hardly walk afterward. When I focus on arms, I stick with low weight and higher repetition. I am striving to tone rather than bulk. I would like my arms to look strong but not beefy. It is a way better workout because I am not straining or injuring myself. No matter what type of workout I do, I make sure to finish with a deep stretch. In highschool, I always began lifting without a warmup and then showered without cooling down first. Now I stretch before I run or lift. After the workouts are complete I stretch while I am still warm. I hope to improve flexibility, balance and coordination. It also just feels good.
