I try to tell my students all of their options

Nick January 22, 2021

I have been a teacher for about ten years now and I always make it a point to let my students know that they have more options than they might think.

I think that sometimes kids might think that the only possible thing that they can do after high school is to go to college.

I think that a lot of the time, that is what people actually believe and then they have to end up paying back all kinds of student loans that they really didn’t need to get to begin with. I know a lot of kids who go off to school and have to pay a fortune back in loans, then they don’t even end up getting a job in the field that they went to school for. It’s just a crazy, vicious cycle, if you ask me. In my personal opinion, I think that these students these days should look into going to occupational schools instead. It’s always a good idea to get training for jobs that are always in demand, no matter what’s going on. That’s something that I always tell the students who talk to me about their futures. It makes sense to get trained to be an electrician, a plumber, or a heating and cooling technician. Jobs such as those are always in demand and you will never have to worry about whether or not you are going to be in need of job security. No matter what happens, people are always going to need their furnaces and their air conditioning systems. Plus, when you go to a vocational school, your school loans are practically non-existent compared to loans from a university.
