Sports make for great workouts

At my local high school, seniors are allowed to do normal gym class or take conditioning.

  • Conditioning involves going to the weight room for every gym class.

There is a treadmill, various fitness machines and weightlifting equipment. I seriously considered it because I wanted to be lazy rather than take gym. I then decided I enjoyed trying out new sports and stuck to the regular gym class. I am thankful because I learned what a great workout I could get from different types of sports. My last year of highschool was extremely enlightening. I made an effort to really participate and improve, no matter the sport that was offered. I enjoyed playing tennis due to the cardio workout. It really got my heart pounding. Volleyball was amazing because of all the lunging, squatting and quick bursts of energy. My legs would always feel sore after that class. I even enjoyed playing football. I realized that it was a wonderful arm and leg workout. Now as an adult, I use various sports as a means of working out. I will often call up my brother or sister to play tennis with. Sometimes, I will kick a soccer ball around for a good cardio workout. I signed up for a baseball beer league and often play basketball with friends. I prefer this type of activity rather than going to a gym. It is boring lifting weights or running on a treadmill for an hour. Playing a sport tricks offers the opportunity to maintain physical fitness while having fun. I also benefit from a more balanced workout because most sports utilize a bunch of movements and muscles. I always take the time to properly stretch and warm up when I do a sport.
