Dehumidifier isn't working

If your dehumidifier stops working in your home, there are several things that could be the cause of it not working properly.

Dehumidifiers are great in regions with hot and humid weather climates and can be very inconvenient for your comfort when it stops working like it should.

Most dehumidifiers come with a shut off switch that turns the appliance off when the collection tank reaches the top so you should check to make sure it’s full. Most dehumidifiers allow the user to select their desired humidity level in the room. When humidity rises above that level, the dehumidifier turns on and removes moisture from the air. It might not be coming on because the room’s humidity level isn’t high enough. The humidistat is the actual component in the dehumidifier that turns that appliance on. If it is broken, the unit will not turn on and operate. The refrigerant fluid could be too low. Without sufficient refrigerant fluid, the evaporator coil will not become cold enough to draw moisture from the air. This isn’t an easy fix when this happens and will require a HVAC technician and maybe a whole new dehumidifier will have to be purchased. If a broken fan motor is at fault, the fix is also complex and should only be done by a professional HVAC technician. It might be cost effective to buy a new unit. If the fan is in good shape, something could be blocking the airflow into the unit such as lint, dust, or pet fur buildup. You can just remove the grill cover and take it outside and spray it clean with a hose. Some of these issues only require a simple fix from you or a professional technician. However, other issues may require a necessary purchase of a completely different unit.
