I always thought it was great relaxing at my brother’s house because he has a really nice fireplace. When I was there last though, he confessed the most shocking thing. He said that he hadn’t had the fireplace cleaned in years. When I asked him why he would not have that done, he started telling me about these creosote logs that he uses. He claims that they do the chimney sweep work and are convenient to use. While those might work to a certain degree, I still don’t think it’s safe to skip important chimney sweeping maintenance. That would be like me skipping out on my HVAC system maintenance just because I’m changing the air filters. It really is not something that is wise to do in my opinion and I told my brother all of this. I didn’t want to see him put his family at risk and have the house potentially catch on fire because the chimney hadn’t been cleaned out properly. A few days later, my brother told me that he had the chimney sweep come through and surprisingly, the chimney wasn’t even that dirty. He said the chimney sweep was really surprised when he told him it hadn’t been cleaned in years, but he uses the creosote logs. I guess there might be something to those logs after all if his chimney wasn’t in terrible shape. Personally though, I would keep on going with the professionals regularly. I’ll go with the professionals for anything important, whether I need a plumber, chimney sweep, or an HVAC professional.
