Replacing my thermostat

Replacing my thermostat

Replacing a thermostat for the first time can seem daunting if you dont have alot of experience working with wiring. Due to the age of my old house, there weren’t enough wires running to the old thermostat from the furnace. The C-wire, or common wire, was missing, which is a requirement for any thermostat that draws power from the furnace instead of a battery. Most smart thermostats include a power extender kit that installs directly to the furnace without requiring a full wire fun. I don’t know why I didn’t do this any sooner because I should have. There are so many benefits to having a smart thermostat. My new thermostat was so easy to use and looks great too. I was able to access my thermostat settings through an app that the thermostat is compatible with on my smartphone. I can access my thermostat settings and set the temperature from anywhere, even when I am not home. I am able to set schedules based on certain days of the week, and times during the day depending on if I will be home or not during that time. Preventing excess heating and cooling of my home when its empty or when I’m sleeping is a simple switch for me to make because it saves money on gas and electric bills. One of the best features I have found is that the smart thermostat is compatible with my smart home system, Alexa. I can control my thermostat with my voice! The initial cost of the thermostat was definitely higher than I expected. However, when a consistent temperature schedule is set, the savings on heating and cooling slowly began to pile up with huge potential savings. I wish I would have made this change a long time ago. If I knew about all of the benefits then, I would have gotten rid of my old thermostat and installed a smart one ages ago.
