When I was having trouble with my window A/C unit in my apartment, I decided to go to the library to learn how to fix it.
I thought it would be absurd calling an HVAC professional to have my window A/C unit fixed and I didn’t want to reach out to the landlord either.
I had my library card and I figured they had to have some type of repair books. So I found a few books that were very helpful and went over all the steps on how to open up a window A/C unit and how to clean everything out. It covered the types of parts and wires in there and showed me how to replace anything that was worn out. It also said it’s important to change for loose wires that might need to be soldered back into place. Well with my window A/C unit, the wire was actually very loose and that explained why my window A/C unit would not work unless I slapped it. I thought that was strange that it worked when being slapped, but then I knew it was the wire that kept moving around causing it to function or not function. I was able to get a solid connection with the wire using my soldering gun and I cleaned out the window A/C unit really well with alcohol. When I was finished, not only did the window A/C unit work perfectly, but the funky smell was entirely gone. It was sort of like using a brand new cooling unit.
