My partner & I chop our time between more than one houses.
We have a house located in the northeastern area of the country & another in the south.
We take fortune of the best weather in each location. We spend the weeks from May until sometime in September up north. The late Spring, summer time & early fall are just attractive. We keep the windows open & simply run a window air conditioner in the study room at night. We avoid the subzero hot & cold temperatures, bitter windchill & feet of snow accumulation by living the rest of the year down south! Our southern location offers just gorgeous weather for those more than five weeks. Even in the middle of the winter, both of us rarely need to run the heater. Our largest problem is worry over whichever house is left empty. If the furnace up north should fail over the winter, the water pipes could freeze & burst. If the air conditioner should quit while both of us were in the summer, our house down south could become overrun with mold growth & suffer moisture disfigure. There is always the risk of power outages & natural disasters in either location. Installing a smart control component in each house has helped a great deal. We now have access to temperature control & information through an app on our iPhones. At any time, from wherever both of us happen to be, both of us can check on the temperature, make changes & acquire alerts. We get notified if there is a power failure, serious temperature fluctuation or a need for maintenance. It’s also helpful that both of us can adjust temperature prior to our arrival at the house.
