My wife and I had been making plans for our anniversary for almost a year.
We not only planned on having the reception we never got to have, but we were planning a fabulous honeymoon.
It took us nearly twenty-five years to have a reception and honeymoon, and we swore nothing was going to stop it from happening this time. A freak snowstorm unceremoniously ended our first wedding. It had been such a lovely week leading up to the wedding, and no one expected the snowstorm of the century to arrive a few short hours before the ceremony. The roads were closed and the only people allowed on the roads were emergency vehicles. My husband and I were already at the church and we married with just ourselves and my parents in attendance. We spent that night in a hotel that was within walking distance of the church, not even able to get the four of us back home. This year, we planned our reception for a time when the weather, other than a possible rain storm, could ruin the day. We hadn’t planned for a heatwave, and the lack of air conditioning in the reception hall. Luckily, our son had recently gotten his HVAC certification. He went right to work on the air conditioning unit and had it working within an hour before the guests arrived. When he gave a toast to his father and me, he said he gave us the best gift of anyone. Not only did we have the joy of having him as a son, but he also fixed the AC unit so we could have a real reception with no problems.
