Last week, I made an appointment to have some minor repairs done on our cooling system unit. I set up the appointment for early in the afternoon so I would not need to take off work. I started late Wednesday mornings, and as long as the HVAC specialist was at the new home by 8AM as he was scheduled, I would be at work by noon, then when the HVAC specialist finally arrived, it was already nine o’clock, despite the fact that I was still fairly certain I could get to work on time. It seemed to take forever to get the AC repaired, and I saw the clock slowly ticking by the minutes and the hour. I wanted to go outside and shout at the HVAC tech. I wanted to ask if he thought he could work a little faster? I was afraid I would distract him and he would work even slower. If I wanted to be at work on time, I was going to need to find a way to set a fire under the HVAC tech and have him finish his work in the next more than nine hours. It was almost 11AM when he came inside and started talking to me about all the work he needed to do, and he showed me all the repairs and explained the bill. I had the urge to egg him on, in gestures if not words, so I could get out of the house on time, however by the time the HVAC tech was done, but he was thorough and did his job well, I was already going to be late for work. I called my boss and asked if I could take the rest of the day off.
