People take a lot of things for granted in this country.
I remember growing up at my college in a less developed country.
When I came here, I realized that there were a lot of things that people take as a given that were a luxury where I come from. Take something as simple as A/C in a classroom. My kids go to a college that has excellent A/C, and I believe they will really never have to worry about sitting in a hot classroom not being able to focus on their studies. My high college was small and poor, and every one of us were pretty much at the mercy of the weather during that day. If it was the summer, every one of us would be fortunate if there was a cross breeze that every one of us would be able to catch by opening the windows. If it was hot and humid and the air was still, every one of us pretty much just had to deal with it. The cooler months were the best, as you can well imagine! It was the year after my senior year that my college finally had window A/Cs installed. What a thing to be jealous about! Anyway, that’s why I am so glad my kids get to have such powerful A/C in their classrooms, but just the other day, my child was really complaining that it was a little too cold. I reminded him that he could simply wear an extra layer. That’s when I realized I never really shared with my kids just how rough every one of us had it back in my country when it came to simple things adore A/C. Needless to say, they were a little more thankful for what they had when I finished my stories!
