I have worked a number of different jobs over the years.
My first job in high school was washing dishes in the kitchen at an assisted living facility.
I loved being able to earn money for the first time in my life and save for the things I wanted the most in life like CDs and guitars at the time. It gave me a great work ethic and allowed me to get a job in another kitchen working as an assistant cook for a chef in a small diner. It wasn’t easy and tested my physical endurance and my mental strength. But I was proud of my job regardless of the amount of work and effort it took on a day by day basis. This led me to trying food service as a long term business, but this wasn’t as viable as I had hoped. By the time I started working for a small restaurant in my hometown, I quickly learned that it’s a cutthroat business by far. The chefs are often aggressive so you have to develop a thick skin if you want to survive in that career field. I decided to move into the world of home construction. This was better for my mental health, but it was still a lot of work for little pay. That’s when I decided it would be better if I pursued becoming an HVAC technician. The work is similar to the level of physical demand you’d get with home construction, but the income is slightly better. This definitely improves with time, so I am happy to be working in the heating and cooling industry because it is my favorite job yet.
