Strange and weird sounds in the basement can scare anyone.
There are lots of things going on in the basement that can cause noises. The floorboards in the ceiling Creek when they get older. The oil furnace can make weird sounds from time to time too. The oil furnace has consistently been a source of fear with all of my children, and none of them like to go into the basement because of the sound that the oil furnace always makes. Sometimes it sounds like a loud wrenching screech and other times the sound is dull. I wanted my child to go into the basement to get the laundry and he brought up the sounds of the oil furnace. I told him to leave the door open so I could hear him downstairs and he could hear me upstairs. He agreed to keep the door open. I continued making breakfast and he went down the stairs. I heard him open up the washing component and after that I heard the lid slam down. The sound of the metal made a loud clicking sound. My child ran up the stairs. He told me that he saw someone’s shadow in the corner of the room. I knew there was no way that he saw a shadow in the basement, although I grabbed a flashlight and went downstairs to investigate. The oil furnace was running and I suppose the sounds scared my son, although I didn’t see anyone or anything downstairs. I showed my child every part of the basement so he could see that nothing was lurking in the shadows.
