So building a custom home once is for sure enough for me.
While it turned out just awesome, building a house from scratch has been checked off the list.
My wife and I lived in our little starter home for more than 15 years. Our finances finally improved and so did the value of that little house. We replaced nearly everything in the house over the course of owning it. It was not like we got in the house all at once. We spent a decade or more changing and improving that little dwelling. But the last thing we did was to upgrade HVAC unit just before we listed the house. And that helped us make a whole lot of money on that little place. Strangely, that little home turned out to be quite the investment. We chose to take all that money and invested it in our new custom built house. But this time we decided to go really long-term with our thinking when it came to heating and cooling. We’ve enjoyed the latest in residential HVAC before we sold our house so we wanted the same sort of quality heating and air this time. Boy did we sure get our wish. But we decided to really get the most out of our heating and cooling investment by going with a geothermal heat pump. For sure it was more of a cost outlay up front. Traditional HVAC equipment and installation is the cheaper option. But the fact that we are going to save on heating and cooling costs for at least the next 30 to 40 years was reason enough to go with the geothermal heat pump.
