Working in a hot kitchen was miserable, even though I was a teenager and was fairly resilient at the time.
I was happy to earn the money even though it was tough on my body, particularly my back.
But I was extremely happy to get an office job afterward where there was ample air conditioning during my work shifts. While the kitchen technically had an air conditioner inside, the steam and heat generated from the ovens, friers, stove tops, and steam tables. I once considered a career working in food, but the experience at this age is what changed my mind completely. That’s what gave me the push to focus on school, prepare for college, and set my sights on working a white collar job. Now I’ve been slowly working my way up the corporate ladder and improving my life with whatever money is leftover once my bills are paid and my groceries are purchased. One of the recent ways I have improved my home is by adding a brand new indoor climate control system. I put in a central HVAC system with better efficiency and an air purifier to improve the air quality. It’s nice having good air when I’m at home, I just wish that my employers would do the same with our workplace. Sometimes my allergies are aggravated in the office and I wonder if they would improve with some form of air purification system running while we work. I know that my efficiency and output would improve if the indoor quality improved in our office. It would be a significant improvement to our workplace.
