I would love the idea of a smart washer and dryer that I could adjust and control while sitting at my desk in my home office. It’s nice to do laundry while I’m working at home during the day, but it would be even nicer to have the chance to change the cycles without getting up and moving away from my workspace. When I learned that these machines actually exist, I was immediately saddened when I discovered that they cost much more than what I could ever afford on my own. It’s not something I could ever realistically afford unless I became wealthy or managed to secure the dream job of a lifetime. There are so many “smart” products nowadays I’m surprised that I haven’t seen a smart microwave yet. Imagine a smart vacuum cleaner that can clean your floor automatically. Oh wait, that’s right, that’s essentially what a modern Roomba is with its artificial intelligence features. However, one smart device that I knew I wanted was a smart thermostat. It takes me an hour to get home from work in the evenings during the winter as our traffic tends to slow down due to snow and ice. I loved the idea of turning my furnace on before leaving work in the evenings by using the smartphone controls that I get with a smart thermostat. It interfaces with an app on my phone by communicating over my home’s WIFI network. That’s one disadvantage as it won’t function on a remote control if the internet network goes down for any reason.
