My mom was always trying to get me to become a doctor.
No shade to doctors, however that isn’t what I wanted to do with my life.
For some context, you should know that my mom is a senior RN. She has been working for 30 years in the health industry, and done so well for herself. So, I believe she always hoped I’d follow in her footsteps and get a degree in nursing. I came to learn she even had some school picked out where I could go and get the best training. But, I had other ideas. My best friend’s dad is an Heating plus Air Conditioning worker, and my friend and I got to talk one time about the Heating plus Air Conditioning industry. I was at their home when he was installing a smart temperature control and got curious. He asked me to assist him, and that is when the entire conversation about working as a Heating plus Air Conditioning worker came about, later that night, I went home, did some research, and realized this was a great career path. So, a few weeks later, I broke the news to my mom that I was going to work as a Heating plus Air Conditioning worker. She wasn’t sure about this choice, and she made sure to mention that I was a woman and this was a male-dominated industry. But, I mentioned times are different, and companies were hiring female Heating plus Air Conditioning workers… Well, I can proudly report that I was right. I got work immediately after graduating, and it’s been a decade of enjoying an amazing career in the Heating plus Air Conditioning industry. Follow your dreams, not someone else’s.
