Freezing cold thanksgiving

Nick February 15, 2024

I have to say, winter time is my least favorite season of the year.

Not only is the weather terrible, bringing freezing temperatures, feet of snow, and brutal winds, but I also desperately hate the holiday season.

I know I’m a bit of a scrooge, but I don’t feel the same sense of love, joy, and appreciation that everyone else seems to experience when they are surrounded by family. In fact, all of my family gatherings are incredibly difficult to get through at all. Someone is always bickering or making shocking statements, my mom is always wound up and picking at us, and no one has a comfortable house to host the event. Last year, for instance, we had Thanksgiving at my grandma’s house and I don’t think I’ve ever been so cold in my entire life. We arrived and found that the air temperature was brutally cold, hovering around 45 degrees indoors. My grandma insisted she hadn’t noticed, despite the fact that she was wearing a full snow suit. I picked up the phone and called the nearest HVAC company, but they were closed for the 4 day weekend. We couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the furnace ourselves, and after acquiring a few cuts and bruises we all gave up on trying to repair the heating system. Instead, we spent the entire holiday wearing our outdoor layers and huddling near the oven to soak up a little heat. I was so anxious to get out of that freezing hell hole, I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned a plate of food so quickly.
