Once a year in our area there is a fundraiser that delights the masses. Several craftsman, designers, & decorators all gather to show off their skills & completely do over an ugly looking house. They chose a property that has been let go for several months & it takes weeks to complete. Once it is finished, the public can buy a stub to see how it has been transformed. The money raised goes to help the neighborhood watch company & several of us look forward to it each year. This year every one of us went & I left feeling as if our own lake house was nothing more than a clean slate. Each room at the lake house every one of us looked at was set to a unusual theme, yet, they seemed to flow as a group. I, on the other hand, had made each room the same neutral look in our lake house to attempt to get that one theme. Now, it just looks stupid & I want to change the colors. I grabbed a couple of business cards from the designers who did the showhouse to see if I could get some help from them. The only one I was not impressed with was the corporation that did the Southwest design in the kitchen. The southwest theme is not for me & it just didn’t go with the style of the house. The high ceilings in that room allowed for the really tall shelves to look as if they belonged in the space. The carpenter that had made them said that he could customize just about any sort of shelf or bookcase that a person might need.
