It took me a long time to find it out, but our WIFI temperature control was hacked. I always heard that WIFI temperature controls and smart temperature controls were super secure. So, when our temperature control was doing random things on its own, the thought that it might have been hacked never even crossed my mind. The first time it happened was when I got home from work one day. I entered my house and it felt like I was standing in an oil furnace. I was absolutely disappointed because I was looking forward to walking into a cool, air conditioned home after work. I went to our WIFI temperature control and it displayed that indeed the oil furnace was on! I turned off the oil furnace and turned on our central cooling system unit. It wasn’t long before our house was once again a comfortable temperature. Then, it happened yet again the next afternoon. In the evening before I go to bed, I always go to our WIFI temperature control and turn off the air conditioning and turn on the programmable temperature control setting which is connected to both our oil furnace and our central air conditioning. This temperature control will keep our house at a great temperature all night. But, to my surprise the next morning, I woke up to an ice cold house. I was at least hoping that when I crawled out of bed my feet would hit the warm heated flooring, but that was not the case because my whole house felt like an ice box. I was freezing. I called our Heating, Ventilation, and A/C provider. Shortly afterwards, I found out that our WIFI temperature control had been hacked by a person who didn’t like me.
