Ever since we had the new HVAC system installed, our air conditioning was keeping it too cold for comfort.
We had the thermostat set to seventy-five, but we were all wearing sweaters in the house. I couldn’t understand what was going on? One particularly sunny afternoon, I walked into the living room and I was almost blinded by the sun coming in through the picture window. I noticed it was shining directly onto the thermostat. I wasn’t normally home this time of day, so this was a shock to me. I brought it up to my husband, wondering if this wasn’t the reason why the living room was so comfortable, but the rest of the house was freezing. It was like a light bulb going off, but he couldn’t fix the problem. He had no idea how to move the thermostat and reconnect it. We had to call the HVAC company. They sent a technician over the following day. He agreed with us about the placement of the thermostat. He said it should have never been put in a room that receives direct sunlight nearly all day. It was trying to cool off that room and causing the rest of the house to be cold. He moved the thermostat to an inner room where it didn’t get any drafts or direct sunlight. Within a couple hours our home was perfectly cooled, and the air conditioning wasn’t running all the time. He didn’t charge us for changing the thermostat since it was their HVAC tech that had installed it. We thanked him, even though we would have gladly paid.
