My sister works four twelve hour shifts every week, and one eight hour shift.
- On the day she works eight hours, she rushes home to watch her favorite television show.
She picks up her favorite take-out, settles on the couch and watches her show. I laugh at her, but she says it is the only time she can truly relax. I have offered to tape the show, but she refuses. Last week, she was on the way home and I called her. I told her there was a problem with the air conditioning. I had just arrived home and the AC unit had to have been out for quite some time. It was really hot and stuffy in the house. She told me to call the HVAC company and she would be home in ten minutes. When she got there, I had already called the HVAC company and they were going to be at the house in about half an hour. She had brought Chinese home for the two of us, and we were trying to relax, even though it was nearly ninety in the house. We had fans in the living room, eating on the coffee table, and waiting for her TV show to come on, when the doorbell rang. The HVAC technician told her he was there to fix the air conditioning. She led him out back and excused herself to finish dinner. Ten minutes later he told her that the emergency shut-off had triggered. The pipe that pushed cooled air into the ductwork was clogged with dirt. He had changed the air filter and cleaned things out. I was upset because it was my job to change the air filter.
