I was quite excited.
This weekend, I was going to be visiting my grandfather’s old cabin in the woods. This was a spot that my siblings and I would visit all of the time and our grandfather would tell us spooky stories. I remember getting so scared by some of those stories, but always wanting more! Sadly, as we grew older, our visits became less frequent, because we had to worry about schoolwork and household chores with our parents. Then my grandfather passed away and I visited the cabin briefly for memory’s sake. My siblings and I talked over the good times before leaving. That was decades ago. Now, with a family of my own, I was hoping to continue the tradition. I took our young kids with my wife and we all visited the cabin. It was just how I remembered it, except it looked a lot smaller since I had grown. While I had a great time scaring our kids with stories, it was kind of hard to focus, because of the lack of air conditioning. I guess the lack of A/C didn’t bother me as a kid, but it certainly bothered me as an adult. This cabin had never had any form of heating and cooling. Rather than have an expensive HVAC installation in the cabin, I decided that next time we come over, I will buy a portable heating and A/C device before the trip. When I was done telling all of the stories, our kids were too scared to complain about the lack of HVAC.
