I’m actually taking advantage of all these devices in my life. When I refer to devices, I mean the phones, the tablets and the multiple computers that are all so much a part of my life. A decade ago, I was still against even carrying a flip phone. And I sort of resented all the technology I had to learn just to do my job inside the commercial HVAC of my office. So I’ve begrudgingly adapted to the fact that technology is here to stay. But now, I’m just going to start using it more in order to help me get more stuff done. When it comes to being inside the central air conditioning of my home, I tend to shut my brain off. I spend so much time inside the zone controlled HVAC of my office, that I seem to just naturally click off when I come home. And while I think it’s important to have a work/life balance, I think maybe I take it a bit too far. That’s because there are a whole lot of things to do around this house and I tend to forget them. It’s not fair to my wife to have to remind me all the time to do the stuff that is really my responsibility. So that’s where this new strategy with all my devices comes into play. I’ve begun setting alerts for things like changing the HVAC filter. I’ve also scheduled in alerts months in advance for HVAC maintenance as well. If I don’t maximize and utilize the technology I have, I’m not going to make stuff like the HVAC chores a priority. And since I have all this technology, I might as well make good use of it. Besides, the HVAC equipment inside our home is essential to our comfort.
