He should have told me he was Mom’s HVAC technician.

He should have told me he was Mom’s HVAC technician.

I was nervous when I walked into the house last week and saw a strange man coming out of the basement.

I backed up and quietly walked upstairs.

I picked up my phone and called the police. I told them there was someone in the house, and I didn’t see anyone home, but me. He asked where I was calling from, and I told him I was in my bedroom. Once the police told me to stay put, I started listening to hear if someone else was in the house. I saw my phone light and then it started to vibrate. I picked up the phone to see who was calling. My mom wanted to know where I was. She expected me home almost an hour ago. I told her I was in my room, and there was someone in the kitchen. I heard her snort right before she told me she was in the kitchen. She had been downstairs with the HVAC technician, and he had just left. That’s when she asked why I was whispering. I told her I didn’t want the robber to find me, and I realized how stupid that sounded because Mom said she was in the kitchen. I saw the police cars pull up as I came down the stairs. I had to stop them from storming in. I walked out onto the porch and told the police officer it was a false alarm. The only person in the kitchen was my Mom. She was still in the basement when the HVAC technician came up. I told them I didn’t know Mom had called the HVAC company, and I assumed it was a prowler in the house.
