This Christmas I am planning on staying back home where I have my home all to myself, and I can control the heating and cooling unit to make sure that I’m not overheated
After all of the things that went down last year at my family christmas back home, there is no question that I am not heading back this time around. Seeing everyone was great, but the living arrangements is what made it go south. My parents have a lovely five room home out in the country, but when it comes to dozens of family members all over the country coming down to visit it gets cramped and overheated. It really doesn’t help that my parents have an old heated gas furnace installed in their home that is constantly overheating and needs to have been replaced ten years ago. After only a few days, there were so many people and so much activity that everyone was grumpy. A few of us offered to go and stay at the closest hotel nearby where we would have some space and get a chance to cool off, but whenever we brought it up to my parents they would get offended and act as if we were abandoning them. This Christmas I am planning on staying back home where I have my home all to myself, and I can control the heating and cooling unit to make sure that I’m not overheated. I’m sure that my mom and dad will be upset when I tell them in a few days, but hopefully giving them a call on skype will keep them from getting too upset. Sometimes in life you have to be a little selfish in order to protect your sanity, and for me I think this is one of those times.
