There’s two times per year when the local HVAC company gets slammed with requests. It’s always during the seasonal transitions between summer and fall and winter and spring. It’s always so busy, because most homes are trying to get their HVAC equipment serviced before they switch between their furnaces and air conditioning systems. When the HVAC company is busy, most homes pray that their HVAC system can hold out until the HVAC professional comes to their home. Unfortunately, there are some homes that either forget to schedule their HVAC appointments, or they run into heating and air issues before a professional can make it out. My neighbor was one of those people this year. One Saturday afternoon, while I was getting a lot of spring cleaning done around the inside of my home, my neighbor knocked on my door. When I answered, she looked stressed and anxious. She told me that she’d forgotten to schedule a service appointment for her HVAC system, but she needed an air filter replacement right away. She couldn’t run to the local hardware store for a replacement, because her husband was out of town and she had her young toddler and a newborn. She also said that the air quality in her home had gone down drastically, causing the pollen to linger in the air and her AC system to run inefficiently. Since our homes were built by the same builders, we had the exact HVAC system, so she knew our air filters would be the same. I happily gave her one of my spare air filters, and also offered to replace it for her.
