I’m an HVAC technician and I really love my job. I work for a really great HVAC company, and their reputation is first-rate. I always look forward to all the new HVAC technicians also. Our company is typically always happy to bring on new professionals. This year we decided to have a little competition. Whichever trainers could bring the new HVAC workers up to speed would receive a big bonus. There would be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in this challenge. Everybody was really motivated to get out there, and even the new workers were incredibly excited about this challenge. Basically, the workers would be tested for their knowledge of HVAC repair and their ability to pass a test actually working on HVAC equipment in the warehouse. Not only would the trainers get a nice bonus, but the new workers that won would get something special as well. So I worked really hard with my new HVAC shadow and I taught the man everything I knew. I was glad he was sharp, he was picking up everything in no time. Before I knew it, I had him doing a lot of the work on his own and I was supervising and telling him if he was doing anything wrong. When we had the official knowledge test followed by the HVAC repair test, we did great. I thought we did so well, we probably would win first place. It was close in the end but we ended up getting 2nd place. I was happy with that and so was my trainee who was officially promoted to official HVAC technician. He deserved it and definitely was ready to be out there on his own.
