I wanted to live elsewhere.
- That’s really what it came down to.
My wife and I were both from the area where we lived and had raised a family. We were married young and had kids right away. I got a pretty good job locally as did my wife. And life just went along like that. Lots of gas furnace HVAC heating in the winter was the one thing that I just wasn’t very comfortable with. It didn’t get better with age. My wife and I discussed moving once the kids were grown. She was more attached to the area than I was. But she was also getting sick of being stuck inside the HVAC heating for month after month while the temps dipped to the teens and single digits. One morning as we were having our coffee, she just blurted out that she was ready to move and that we should maybe start considering that possibility. We were still a very long way to retirement. But 25 years of experience in our jobs would help in finding new jobs. And just like that, there was an opening in my company in a southern office. I went for an interview and immediately fell in love with all the zone controlled HVAC comfort of the nice office. So we went for it. It was a process for sure. We had to upgrade the HVAC equipment and some other areas of the house to sell it. But we moved and now we are enjoying winter for the first time in our lives. The heat pump hardly comes on during the winter. We essentially traded HVAC heating for HVAC cooling.
