Geothermal system pays for itself

Geothermal system pays for itself

I did a lot of research before choosing a geothermal heat pump for my new home.

I was originally intimidated by the much higher cost of purchase and installation.

I then learned that a geothermal system offers a 50 to 70% higher heating efficiency and 20 to 40% higher cooling efficiency than conventional alternatives. The EPA considers this type of temperature control the most environmentally friendly option available. The savings on monthly utility bills has helped to recover the investment in under five years. Because the heat pump is installed inside the house and protected from the elements, it can be expected to last upwards of twenty years. The underground loop system is warrantied for fifty years and could easily last twice that long. There are very few moving parts, making maintenance very simple and lessening the chance of expensive repairs. I like that the system doesn’t use noisy outdoor fans, keeping the operation especially quiet. The system takes advantage of the consistent underground temperature. The earth absorbs nearly 50% of the sun’s heat. The geothermal underground loop system taps into this free and renewable energy and provides an infinite source of heat. When the weather warms up, the system reverses the operation. It acts very much like an air conditioner, pulling heat out of the house. The system is extremely good at combating excess humidity and doesn’t cause issues with overly dry air in the winter. We don’t need to add a humidifier. Another great benefit of the geothermal system is that it provides a virtually free source of hot water.
