I was on our way back to my house from my task last week, when I thought I saw a glow in the basement window. My first thought was that one of our children was in the basement, perhaps working on 1 of their projects for school. Then I thought that maybe our partner was in the basement doing some laundry. Before I went in, I realized that our partner & child would not yet be at our beachside house because he had baseball practice. I tried to opening through a basement window, however all I could see was flames. Before going into the house, I called the fire fighters. I knew I was in trouble when I could see the smoke escaping under the door. By the time the firefighters showed up, our beach house was involved with flames, but once the fire was resolved, the fire investigator showed up to look around, however he told me they had located the remains of rags that smelled care about gas, & I remember a Heating, Ventilation, & A/C specialist being there earlier in the week. He has sited some of the dirty rags he was using into the trashcan I had provided to him, even though I never taken it out. While absolutely working on the furnace, some of the gas and fuel had leaked out & the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C specialist mopped it up with those rags. The gas soaked cloths spontaneously combusted, & the small amount of gasoline that was left on the floor ignited. I am not blaming the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C technician, because I was 1 who forgot to take this cloths outside. Had the gas been able to safely dissipate into the air instead of being contained in the small area that comprised the furnace room, I may not have lost our house.
