No one but us knew about it, of course, because in that time and place being gay was not acceptable.
I feel blessed about the time we spent together, but it was always very tense because of our environment. That was a long time ago, and thankfully society has taken huge leaps forward in terms of accepting people of all kinds. Some weeks ago I moved back to my old hometown, and was delighted at how much it had improved. During my initial service inspection, the HVAC tech who showed up was none other than Kenny! Much to my surprise, I found out that Kenny was only the HVAC tech, but the owner of the company. In just a few years he had become such a success that his HVAC company was on the verge of expanding into a neighboring city. It turns out that Kenny did not make HVAC house calls very often these days, because he was too busy running the company. But when he had seen my name on the call sheet he relieved the on-call HVAC tech and offered to do the job personally, because he wanted to see me again. The years have been kind to Kenny, he looks as dreamy as ever, and his success in the HVAC industry has given him an extra layer of confidence that makes him more attractive than ever. I am considering breaking my air conditioner on purpose just to have a reason to call Kenny back over here.
