My kids complain that we keep the house too hot in the summer

It’s not cheap to cool a large house with five bedrooms but we do what we can.

Having kids was both the best and hardest thing to happen to my life. They bring my wife and I an immense amount of joy, pride, and sheer happiness. However, they can also be a lot to handle when one of the three—or more—decides to have a tantrum during a day out at the amusement park or the movie theaters. No matter how hard you try, it’s an unrealistic expectation to assume that you can wrangle all of your kids at once and keep them all behaving properly with no issues. Usually at least one of them is annoyed or unhappy with what we’re doing even if their siblings are happy and ecstatic. If one of them isn’t complaining, it’s one of the other ones. They complain about the food for dinner or lunch and also complain about the movie we’re watching as a family. You can’t please them all, and I have to remind my wife of this golden rule. They’ll be unrelenting about the house being “too hot” in the summer when we dare to turn it up to 78 degrees to save on heating and cooling energy expenses. It’s not cheap to cool a large house with five bedrooms but we do what we can. I have told them to never touch the thermostat, but sometimes they do it anyway. Trying to adjust the HVAC system temperature without permission is punishable with grounding and I’ve told all of them this. They can pay whatever amount of money that they want for air conditioning when they’re living on their own and paying their own bills.
