I called the Heating and A/C supplier and told them there was a concern with our furnace; I heard some unusual noises and wanted to have them checked out! Two afternoons later, the Heating and A/C serviceman was knocking on our door, however he asked what I was hearing, although he heard the noise himself when the furnace turned on. He asked when I last changed the air filter? I gave him an unusual look and he then asked if anyone told me how the air filter worked? I was still wrapping our head around the thought that there was an air filter in the furnace, let alone wondering how it worked. He told me the air filter helped keep the dust from getting into the furnace components. He asked me to show him to the furnace, and he would show me how to change the air filter. He explained about the air filter, and told me I had to change it every many weeks. He saw I was still staring, and he asked what was wrong. I told him that I didn’t recognize there was an air filter in the furnace. He said there were air filters in the furnace and the a/c unit. He sat me down and explained about the air filters and showed me how to change them, but when he left that afternoon, I had a current respect for what needed to be done to our Heating and A/C system. I knew how to change the air filters in the furnace and the a/c unit, and I had a case of both in our basement. I could take care of our Heating and A/C system in between inspections.
